HEFFRON PRECISION©

>Testimonial: "I first found Mike thanks to his mission of leading the pack when it came to expertise, service, and improvements to the 2020 Python. Heffron Precision had been on my radar for some years due to their accurizing work on a number of platforms, and the volumes of information Mike made available through the website with respect to the intricacies of the Colt lockwork instantly reassured me I had the right guy.

The action job Mike performed on that Python was simply jaw-dropping, and the SA trigger went from Colt’s factory-stiff six pounds to a miraculously crisp and repeatable 2.75# on the dot. I tell anyone who will listen: it’s an essential upgrade to wring the most performance out of this exceptional gun.

Since then, I have gotten to know Mike better, and he’s performed his services on several more of my revolvers. From barrel recrowning to completely re-timing a gun, Mike’s work is second to none, and I consider him America’s single most knowledgeable authority on the Colt actions. He combines an engineer’s mind with the insights and perspective of a guy who actually shoots. Mike doesn’t specialize in making safe queens: he is in the business of providing his customers with upgrades and enhancements that result in more durable, more accurate guns that easily distinguish themselves on the firing line.

It is my pleasure to recommend Heffron Precision as America’s “go-to” resource for revolver gunsmithing".

>"I learned of Mike Heffron and his work on revolvers a few years ago, completely by accident by reading some gun related article on the internet. I was looking for some action work on some S&W revolvers (586, 686, 57) and I was interested in acquiring a Colt Python and also getting it tuned. After making a phone call to Mike and having a lengthy conversation I quickly came to the realization that Mike knew more about the mechanics of revolvers than anyone I have ever talked to, and I have dealt with some well known gunsmiths in the past. Mike is a degreed mechanical engineer and if I remember things correctly, he grew up working in his fathers gunsmith shop. Mike has vast knowledge about the types of metal that various revolvers are made of and how to work with those metals to make the gun run better and more durable. I will give you an example of what I am describing here. In the firearms world metal injected molded (mim for short) parts have a sketchy reputation for durability, especially if the part is altered in any way. Mike explained to me that there are different grades of mim and it varies from different firearm manufacturers. The important thing is most of the mim parts are created with a very hard exterior surface and the interior is of softer less durable metal. If Mike alters a mim part he uses a process to harden all of the of the exterior surface of the part beyond what it was when it left the factory making it better than new. Mike explained to me that very few revolvers have perfect bore alignment with the exterior of the barrel creating one side of the barrel being slightly longer at the muzzle creating an adverse effect on accuracy. Mike has a process to make the muzzle very uniform for the bullets exit, thus improving accuracy. Even though my S&W revolvers were relatively new, they came from the factory with some rather roughly formed forcing cones, by some process unknown to me when he returned the revolvers all of the forcing cones were perfectly formed. When Mike tunes a revolver he uses all of the factory springs as he wants the firearm to reliably fire all brands of ammo. I could not be more pleased with the action and reliability of all of revolvers that Heffron Precision has worked on for me. As i understand it at this time Mike only works on Dan Wesson and Colt revolvers. If you need repair or tuning of Colt or DW you need look no further than Mike Heffron. There is a reason he has work booked into 2027, his work is second to none and his fees are very reasonable."   -Roy M. Texas
